All-optical LAN architectures based on Arrayed Waveguide Grating Multiplexers
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper presents optical LAN topologies which are made possible using an Arrayed Waveguide Grating Multiplexer (AWGM) instead of a passive star coupler to interconnect stations in an all-optical LAN. Due to the collision-free nature of an AWGM it ooers the n-fold bandwidth compared to the star coupler. Virtual ring topologies appear (one ring on each wavelength) if the number of stations attached to the AWGM is a prime number. A method to construct larger networks using Cayley graphs is shown. An access protocol to avoid collisions on the proposed network is outlined.

Design of Arrayed Waveguide Grating based Optical Switch for High Speed Optical Networks
This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...

متن کاملMiniature astronomical spectrographs using arrayed-waveguide gratings: capabilities and limitations
The size of the optical elements (gratings, mirrors, lenses) in traditional astronomical spectrographs scales with telescope diameter (unless the instrument is operating at the diffraction limit). For large telescopes, this leads to spectrographs of enormous size and implied cost. The integrated photonic spectrograph offers the potential to break this scaling law and allow massively multiplexed...

This paper presents an accurate theoretical model for the study of concatenation of optical multiplexers/demultiplexers (MUXs/DMUXs) in transparent multiwavelength optical networks. The model is based on a semianalytical technique for the evaluation of the error probability of the network topology. The error-probability evaluation takes into account arbitrary pulse shapes, arbitrary optical MUX...
